Big day today….we have walls up and made some new friends. Language is a something we work around but I was put on a team that has 3 people that speak Spanish. Thanks dad for all those lessons on working on building things….I did very well today with the drills, and other tools. I didn’t take much time to take pictures but got some great ones. They say I can post them on here but it’s pretty slow and there is always a line of folks to get on here! I know I will sleep good tonight! Love you and thanks for checking in. Courtney you ROCK!! I’m proud of you and I am positive that your dad is hearing nothing but good things from your teacher! Please keep the prayers coming – things are really going wonderfully so far. Today we had great (cool) temps and it was perfect for building. The food is good and so far there has been nothing that I haven’t enjoyed (as we’re very hungry after working so much). Lots of beans and rice – Well good night for now.

Will try to post pictures soon. God is working in wonderful ways and it is very awesome to be part of it. Getting close to the others and it’s neat to get to know them. God bless you all, keep you safe- you are all in my prayers as well – I hope you see the face of God in your days as we are here in ours. Love, Susan

We had another great day. Feel much better tonight then last night. I have loaded 75 pictures to post but am waiting for someone to show us how to upload onto this website, hope to get that done tonight before devotions or at least before lights out.
Tomorrow we finish the insides of our houses and finish the roofs and then in the afternoon dedicate them to the families. We’re all very excited about it as they’ve loved on us today and the kids adopted us and befriended us. We are finishing up the work that will be done in this village for some time so it’s a happy but sad time for the leaders here. I’m sure tomorrow will be very emotional. Love you all, Susan

  21. Sue Pagniello says:

Wow, what a glorious day. I’m tired. Really tired! We had an emotional day. We have one family that wanted to wait and think about Christ but the rest of the house dedications saw many giving thier hearts to Jesus and it was an amazing day. One of the coldest – right after lunch when the dedications started so did the wind and cold temperatures. We are asking for prayer for the mayor of the village – we will see him again on Saturday at a big celebration. Tomorrow is a medical clinic in a new village. The good part is we get to sleep in (if that is even possible around here)- but our day will run into the night from the sounds of it. All my love to you. Sue

  22. Courtney says:

Mom you are awesome!! Guess what now we are learning about in social studies Central America isn’t that funny right when you get there we started talking about it 😀 Im missing you like crazy but I know you’re having fun!! See you soon.

  23. Sue Pagniello says:

Courtney, Honey I am so happy when I read your messages. I miss you too- it’s nice to see all the children and sometimes they even help us with our work- but it isn’t the same as snuggling up with you. I love you so much. Thank you for blogging with me. I know that God loves you even more than I do and have seen His hands work in wonderful ways. I am happy you’re studying about Central America- it’s a beautiful place and hope someday you’ll get to experience it like I am. It has been amazing. So hard to put it all into words. I confess that I’ve not been journaling daily like we talked about. I hope to write down some things this morning about the last 3 days. Sometimes when we get back, we take showers, eat, then spend time singing and sharing what we experienced that day- we worked on teams so we all weren’t together all the time and each of us see’s God in different ways. In the begining- we were all mostly tired and didn’t really feel like doing it- but once you start singing and as the second night came we knew eachother a bit more we shared more. Now our times have been running over 2 hours and we have to stop to go to bed! I’ve made some new friends. Allison has been a great friend, she is very sweet. It turns out that she attends Ada Bible and yesterday we were talking at lunch and found out that I was there when she got baptised. I remember crying because it was so beautiful- her and her sister did it at the same time but they had recently had a good friend die (at age 22) and it touched my heart. Jeff emailed Allison in the beginning of our signing up for the trip because he told her that we attended Ada Bible to. Then I talked to her at the packing meeting and joked that she was my new best friend since she could speak spanish! Now we are friends- she has beautiful red hair and is soft spoken but lots of fun. She is going to college to be a Spanish teacher. Maybe she can teach us spanish! I can see it would be most helpful and it would be nice to understand more of what they are saying!

There are 3 girls down here Skylar’s age. They are in the same grade and everything. One came with her older sister, one with her mom and the third with her dad. They had a case of the giggles last night and it’s nice to see the bond they’ve established with eachother. We have two single moms (besides me) they are younger and have young kids. One is getting married (Julie) on April 2nd and the other (Faith) has a boyfriend (he was supposed to come on the trip but didn’t get his passport in time) – it turns out he’s the dad of her kids so it’s been nice talking with her. I got to know Adam, he’s 20 and works at JQ99 and even has his own radio show. He’s lots of fun – and a really good sport. There are two married couples here. We just are from all walks of life, all different ages, churchs and cities in West Michigan but it’s awesome that we’re all on ONE TEAM and work and play well together. It’s hard to believe that it’s Friday. I have no concept of time here as I don’t have a watch or use my cell phone. We have a builder, a plumber, an electrician…and two nurses.

It’s wonderful to see each person using their talents and strengths here and giving all the glory to God. Two men fixed the school bathrooms yesterday and made them have working toilets. Most places that we are in do not have electricity but a few do. They run on generators here at the mission base and sometimes we loose power due to the battery’s getting drained. That happened on the first day but not since then because we know to not run hair dryers or leave the lights on.

I see that they have the coffee ready so I’m going to go have a cup! Love you lots, thanks for writing – I do look forward to hearing from you and knowing that you’re doing good! Hope you have a fun weekend! See you soon. Love Mom

  25. Sue Streeter says:

Sounds like you are having a great time & being greatly Blessed by God, but what else would we expect from Him! You are being used in a mighty way, both for yourself & to bless others. Isn’t it wonderful to be part of the Christian Family, they are praying mightly for you & your team. Looking forward to your return home, as are the kids. All is fine here. David has started his exercises for his knee surgery, they exhaust him & make him sore, but they are necessary. We love you much. Mom

    You go Grrrrrl!!!

We got back to base at 12:30 am and I went straight to bed! It’s so hard to explain what happened yesterday! We left base about 12:15 pm and drove to no where- over a mountain and to the end of a road (if you can even call them that). By 3 pm we were ready to see 250 beautiful brown faces with huge dark eyes at the medical clinic. (before that we were busy packing and sorting medicines and it looked like a bee hive with all the activity). I worked in the med clinic helping fill orders of medicines- we have two nurses and they were so helpful and even were called apon to examine a one month old baby that couldn’t keep milk down and others that had cysts or things bothering them. We were on our feet for hours. When I took a break then I moved outside and found a connection with the woman and children through (of all things) nail polish! I must have painted 30 to 40 sets of nails! Small girls, teens, mama’s and even two little boys! They enjoyed it and so did I~ After showing the Jesus film we sang and some gave testomonies and the Pastor got up to preach. There was no way to count (but God knows) that at least 45 adults and about the same number of children (maybe more) accepted Jesus as their savior~ This village had not ever had a group like ours visit. By 10 pm we were loaded up and back on the long treck back to base- feeling blessed, happy, and humbled. God has been so good and I know He has moved here in this week. In our group and in the communities that we go serve.

I can’t thank you enough for your prayers as we have seen cold temps, some sprinkles of rain but for the most part very good whether for our trip. We heard about the sunomie (?) yesterday as we headed out. We offered up a prayer for the people near the coast and have not had any news or rain reach us where we are yet. All is well here. Today is cold (not compaired to Michigan but compaired to Florida). We will go to the village that we build the houses in and do a medical clinic there. They are also putting on a celebration for Easter and wanted us to join in. Today we get to see how the Holy Spirit has moved in the mayors heart and we all hope to add him to our ranks. It will be another long day but the last one of work. Tomorrow we are going sight seeing and shopping (I think). Here it’s no joke – they do take one day at a time. As God leads they move. We’ve had changes to our plans but have been blessed by them and not harmed. Love, Susan

Got back late again last night- had a really good day and night. The village we build the houses in had a big celebration and made us a luncheon and we all were really touched by the generous gratitude and how the entire village showed it. We had a medical clinic- it was much smaller then the one before but still very good. They had a praise band set up here and music was great. Many came to Christ or rededicated thier lives- even one from our group named Julie. It was awesome. Faith and Allison both gave thier testimonies and that was a big step for them. Allison and I spent the morning in prayer and discussion over it because it weighed on her so much. I was very proud of her for stepping out in faith. Meghan didn’t feel good yesterday and spent most of the day laying in the van. She was able to get out and enjoy the music later and she seemed to recover by the end of the day. It was so cold that I was wearing my gloves last night. I was snuggling with a little boy named Isrial and before the night was over I had given him one of my gloves. He thought that was wonderful and I hope that it helps him to remember us long after we’re back home. It was really a great feeling to recognize the people and families as they came into the clinic and know the people that we were helping. It was very hard for us to leave them all last night as we have no way to keep in touch except by prayer.

Today is our fun day. The team is going out but the leadership has had a tragidy so they are not all able to come with us. Love you – see you soon (thanks CJ for getting the mail!)
